SUMMARY:Encounter in the Word: Chinese-English Bible Study
DESCRIPTION:The Bible bears witness to the Word of God. Reaching across languages\, histories\, and cultures\, it calls us to listen to God\, to see ourselves anew\, and to enter into the renewal of life in Christ. Written biblical texts are like food that has been preserved or frozen. They can travel through time\, preserved and passed on; But only when they are “thawed” anew within the reality of our lives can they become life-giving nourishment that we can truly receive. \nIn this Bible study\, we will: \n① Read Scripture Closely \nWe will explore the historical contexts and theological meanings of biblical texts. Drawing on church history\, philosophy\, literature\, culture\, and the arts\, we will consider how Scripture shapes the way we think\, imagine\, and live. \n② Study Bilingually \nThe study will be conducted primarily in Mandarin\, while also drawing on English Bibles\, English theological writings\, and related resources. We will explore Scripture through the ways in which these two languages illuminate one another. \n③ Share Our Lives \nWhen ancient texts meet our lived experience\, we do not simply interpret Scripture; we also allow Scripture to reveal anew our journeys\, choices\, wounds\, and hopes: In a new land\, how do we listen for God’s call? How do we learn to live with one another? And how do we find\, through faith\, a place of belonging where our lives can come to rest? \nBible study is not merely the accumulation of knowledge; it is an encounter that can transform our lives. Come with your faith\, your questions and resistance\, your confusion\, wounds\, and silence. May these ancient texts illuminate our lives today as we read\, listen\, and converse together. May we find a sense of belonging through one another’s companionship and build together a spiritual home spacious enough to hold our pain\, memories\, hopes\, and love. \nYou are warmly welcome! Classes will meet on Tuesdays\, with the first session on Tuesday\, September 15\, from 1:15 to 2:30 pm in the Fellowship Room. \nAnd please feel free to share this invitation with anyone who may be interested! \nThis class will be led by Linying Hu.
